Make Summer Moving Easy

Tips for Moving in the Summer

As the most popular time of the year to move, the summer is bustling with families packing up their belongings and moving into their brand new homes.

WHY IS THE SUMMER SO POPULAR?

Summer is the busiest time of the year to move for several reasons:

  • Kids are out of school, making their transition to a new grade in the fall easier because they won't be missing any important class work and risk falling behind their classmates. It also provides plenty of time for children to settle in before the new school year begins.
  • Real estate activity tends to rise in the spring so more homes are sold and ready to move in by summer.
  • The weather is nicer – you won’t have to deal with freezing temperatures or unexpected snow storms when you move.

If you plan on relocating between the months of May and September, here are some tips to make your move as seamless as possible:

PLAN AHEAD

Remember, this is the most popular season for movers, so book early! How much advanced notice should you give? We recommend booking at least 3-4 weeks in advance to be on the safe side. But booking even further ahead could guarantee your spot.

TRY TO AVOID WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS

Not surprisingly, the most popular summer days to move are on the weekends and during long holiday weekends like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Veterans Day. If possible, book your moving day on a weekday.

STAY HYDRATED

It’s hot out, and you’ll be moving around in the summer heat and breaking a sweat. To ensure that you, your team and your families (and your pets!) feel their best under the stress, make it a point to keep everybody hydrated. Having lots of cold water on hand goes a long way.

WEAR COOL CLOTHES AND SMART SHOES

Now is not the time to layer your outfits or wear your favorite strappy sandals. Don't be a fashion victim. We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing and sneakers.

MAKE SURE THE AIR CONDITIONER IS SET UP

The last thing you want is to get stuck in a hot house when you’re already beginning to overheat from moving your things around. If your AC isn’t ready to go yet, we recommend you have fans set up so you can chill out in your new home as best you can. We promise: you’ll thank us!
