Moving can bring on a new set of challenges for your family. Keeping everything organized can seem like an uphill battle, but with proper planning and the right attitude, even a big move can be a lot easier.
Here are some moving day essentials you’ll want to keep in mind when planning your big relocation.

DOCUMENTS

We recommend that you collect all of your documents in one file. Create labels for each piece of information, and keep them all in a safe, easily accessible place. Documents should include your moving documents, insurance policies, rent leases, bank documents, employment history, doctor/vet records, credit, etc. If you’re traveling via airplane, train or bus to your new home, include the flight documents and any hotel reservations and have them handy. We also recommend that you keep these documents on you to ensure safe keeping.

PACKING SUPPLIES

Have packing essentials on hand for moving day. You’ll want to have extra packing tape, boxes, bags, bubble wrap, old newspapers, etc.

MEDICATION

Prepare a small first-aid kit for moving day. It can include pain killers, allergy medicine, antacid, cold remedies, bandages, or any daily prescriptions that you, your family or any pets might need. And don’t bury it under a stack of boxes!

BATHROOM SUPPLIES

Pack bathroom necessities separately. You can include your toothbrush, razors, deodorant, shampoo and shower gels, shaving cream, toilet paper, and anything else you might need to get quickly.

FOR CHILDREN

If you have children, make sure to have their favorite toys or books with you. Also bring snacks and their favorite drinks.

FOR PETS

Have clean pet food and water bowls readily available. They’ll need food, treats and a favorite blanket or toy. Pets can get very stressed out by moving, so make sure that you consider keeping them comfortable. And don’t leave them behind!

PREPARE YOUR OLD HOME

Make sure that you tidy up your house or apartment before you leave.

FOOD AND DRINKS

Have a cooler full of snacks, sandwiches and favorite drinks for the ride to your new home, especially if you’re traveling out of state.

By planning properly and having all these essentials in place, your moving day will be much more enjoyable!
